Will NFTs be a new revolution for poker?
In short, an NFT is a unique piece of code that gives the owner its property, although anyone can publicly see it. Any content, such as artwork, messages, collectibles, etc., can be “tokenized” and be sold. Non-fungible tokens are stored in a blockchain, just like Bitcoin.
It’s getting hard to ignore the rise of NFTs so far this year. Most poker players are paying attention to the crypto space and it looks like NFTs are the next area of mainstream adoption of blockchain technology. For example, step forward poker player, former politician, and now crypto expert Tony G is selling this year NFT trading cards of some of his most famous catchphrases. Including ‘Ace from Space; ‘On Your Bike’ and ‘I Played It Like a Set’.
Today we will answer the most common question of the present time: how will NFTs integrate with poker?
Above, you will find a few examples of how NFTs will become part of the poker world:
1.Theta network bring ‘real time’ NFTs to World Poker Tour
There will be three exclusive non-fungible tokens (NFTs) dedicated to the poker icon called “Mike Sexton: The Legend Hand”. Additionally, a limited quantity of Base set, “Rare and Legendary” themed poker packs will be released with sign-up and pre-registration.
“Our exclusive NFT launch with Theta Network is one of our biggest digital initiatives to date and, for the first time ever, we’re combining our global reach of live televised poker with an NFT marketplace, giving our fans an interactive, real-time opportunity to collect a piece of the WPT poker action,” said World Poker Tour CEO Adam Pliska. “We are thrilled to bring some of our top poker pros, players, and celebrities to the NFT world, featuring rare and legendary WPT packs in weekly drops and running exclusive one-of-a-kind auctions for sure rare poker moments.”
So this is only one way of how NFTs are trying little by little to integrate into the poker world.
2. The possibility of turning NFTs into digital poker trophies
For the majority of online poker players, this will be a well-deserved reward.
If not a real-life trophy, then how about an NFT trophy? Basically to offer them a piece of unique digital artwork that marks a major victory in an online tournament. Something that cannot be replicated and was more than just an entry in the history books about who won a particular event.
Maybe this idea will soon turn into reality for those online poker players who don’t have the chance to win a real poker bracelet.
And this idea was validated on Twitter by Joey Ingram and his followers:
We are more than sure that many poker players will love the NFT initiative and they will try to invest their money in this kind of artwork.
It is worth waiting and see where this new trend will lead and how popular it will become in the poker community.
