There are many strategy articles and videos available for various types of poker games, providing helpful tips and tricks for players looking to improve their skills. However, one critical aspect that is often overlooked is how to prevent your account from being banned. Even professional poker players have had their accounts banned in the past, and it’s important to take steps to avoid this happening to you. In this article, we will discuss some strategies to help you protect your account and avoid being banned.

Only use hands gathered by you at the tables

In the past, it was common for players of the same poker game to share hands with each other to gain more accurate statistics. However, this practice is now universally regarded as cheating by all reputable poker rooms. As a result, analyzing pop tendencies can be a challenge, as it requires a significant number of hands to be collected. One way players have traditionally achieved this is by having multiple players at the same stakes share hands. However, this is now also considered cheating and can result in severe consequences such as account suspension or banning.

Only use software that’s allowed on the particular site.

When it comes to tools providing software assistance, most sites have clear rules in their Terms and Conditions about allowed and prohibited tools and functions. Of course, there can be a lot of grey areas as well, but for the sake of your security, we would advise you not to enter these areas anyway.

Let’s take a look at the relatively broad example of HUDs and trackers. Some rooms may allow pretty much all available functions of more advanced trackers, like heatmaps, bluffing frequencies according to bet sizes, and so on. Some rooms allow only numerical data to be shown with strict limitations on more advanced statistics. In contrast, others prohibit the usage of HUDs while playing or sometimes even restrict access to your hand histories altogether.

It is similar for charts and chart browsers, where a few rooms raise no limitations, some allow only simple push/fold charts, and some prohibit chart usage altogether.

When it comes to GTO solvers, most poker rooms have no problem with you analyzing your own game post-session with them, but pretty much all rooms view mid-game usage (commonly known as Real-Time Assistance or RTA) of these as a serious breach.

Ensure that you always read the T&C and EULA of any given site carefully when it comes to these assistance tools because, very often, violations can lead to permanently banning your account.

There’s a fine line between getting every possible help and cheating. RTAs or real-time assistance software are definitely on this line. These third-party software or services can provide players with information about their opponents or the game itself in real-time.

Odds calculators and GTO (Game Theory Optimal) solvers are where it gets dicey. Odds calculators help players calculate the odds of winning a particular hand based on the cards they hold and the cards that have been revealed on the table. GTO solvers use advanced algorithms to determine the optimal strategy for a particular situation, taking into account the range of hands that the player and their opponents could have. Using this software in real-time provides a massive advantage over your opponents, so you can easily see why it’s deemed cheating and a bannable offense on most sites.

While some forms of real-time assistance may be legal in certain online poker rooms, others are strictly prohibited and can result in severe penalties, including account suspension or permanent bans(!). Before you start to play on a site, it’s important to check the rules and regulations to ensure you’re not violating any policies. Software that is completely fine to use on one site could be against the T&C on another.

Never use someone else’s account, nor let someone else use yours.

The reason why multiple people can use the same account can range from making it easier to grind a VIP level or bonus to just simply topping up each other’s accounts. No matter the benefit, it’s never worth losing your account over it. Sites do watch these activities, and they crack down on them. The same goes for registering your account; always make sure it is registered under your name.

Don’t ghost Jackpots

It’s pretty tempting to ask for a more experienced player’s help when you are on a Jackpot table, but it’s completely illegal on all sites. Since they track what software you are using besides the poker client, it’s a pretty cut-and-dried case if you happen to launch a screen-sharing software (or even Discord…), when you are lucky enough to land a JP table.
It’s way better to be the runner-up than win and never see the money because you got banned.

VPN

Using a VPN on poker sites is generally not allowed, as it can be considered a form of cheating. Many poker sites have measures in place to detect and block VPN usage, and players caught using a VPN can face penalties such as having their account suspended or closed. Therefore, it’s important to check the terms and conditions of a poker site before using a VPN, and to use it only if it is explicitly allowed.

Charts should not be used while playing on a site where they are not allowed.

Charts are a great way to learn preflop, both HU and 3handed. However, their use is prohibited on certain sites, so make sure you don’t use them while playing.
