You’ve probably been in a situation where everything was more interesting than just sitting down and starting to play. In this article, we’ll show you a possible solution to this problem!

Don’t try – do it, succeed or fail, but just do it!

As Yoda said, “Do or do not. There is no try.” Go for it, give it your all, if you succeed, great, if you don’t, then you can learn from it and the next time you do it, you’ll have a better chance of success. Let’s say you planned to play 3,500 games in the next month, you scheduled your day, but in the end, you ended up with 2,800 games. Great!

You’ve done what you could, you have your ‘stats’ for the month (when you played, how much you played, how the game went, how you felt, etc.) that you can then analyze, and bitB Spins has a Player Mentoring System to help you identify areas for improvement. You may have played less if you started early in the morning and found that you met or exceeded your quota in every late afternoon/evening season.

It may also turn out that you’re stronger with fewer tables, you like to think a bit more about a decision. Whatever it turns out to be, you can build on this next month to achieve better results while enjoying the journey to your goal even more.

But that’s only possible if you give it your best shot and do it properly. If you just try it half-assed, you can’t be sure where the areas are where you can improve. Another important point is confidence. It makes sense that if you achieve what you set out to do, it will be good for your confidence, but equally, if you fail, but you can learn from it and see that the world hasn’t fallen apart, it will also boost your confidence. Trying, however, will only leave you wandering in a perpetual ‘what if’ dream world.

There is no first step, only the next step

If you set a slightly bigger goal, it’s scary to think how many steps it will take to get there. The overwhelming pressure of the many, many tasks ahead of you can easily cause procrastination. However, it’s important to see that there is no first step, only the next step, everything beyond that is an elusive mirage of the future. If on the first day of the month you’re worried about how you’re going to play 3,500 games, the answer is simple: you won’t!

You cannot solve a problem that is in a non-existent place (the future). You can, however, play the 150 games set for that day. I’ll go further, you can play the 50 games scheduled for the first session. (We could go even further: you can only fire up the first 4 tables at this point 🙂 )

You are playing a continuous game of chess where you may have an idea of how the next moves will turn out, but the further away in time these moves are, the less chance there is that they will turn out as you had planned. At the moment you only have control over the next step, the rest doesn’t even exist yet, so it’s not worth spending too much time on it.
